Dr. Walter Futterweit to Receive AACE Outstanding Clinical Endocrinologist Award

In recognition of his many accomplishments and contributions in the field of clinical endocrinology, Dr. Futterweit has been selected by the AACE Reproductive Scientific Committee to receive the 2017 AACE Outstanding Clinical Endocrinologist Award, to be presented at the AACE 26th Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Austin, TX.


  • Principal Investigator and Recipient of a $38,000 National Institute of Health two-year grant, for the study of “Urine Testosterone-Index of Androgen Status” - conducted in the gas-chromatography unit of the Endocrine Laboratory of The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY. 1963
  • Distinguished Service Award of the Department of Medicine, The Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY, 1986
  • Endocrinologist of the Year, The Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY, 1987
  • Recipient of a $50,000 grant (from Global Communications) to study The Natural History of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (cohort 980 cases), 1997
  • Recipient of the first Distinguished Service Award to a Physician from PCOSA, 4th Annual Meeting, June 12, 2001, Valley Forge, PA.

  • Recipient of award for the Invited Lecture (by Dr. R. Azziz) at the Center for Androgen-Related Disorders (CARD) at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center, on “PCOS and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease”: A Manifestation of Insulin Resistance”, November 6, 2007.
  • Recipient of $25,000 grant for 2009-10 on the role of metformin and the beta cell. The IVFSGGT is going to be used on women who were on metformin and then taken off the drug. Donated by NY Community Trust, RME Fund. Co-workers Dr. LeRoith and Dr. Caroline Messer.
